Robex was approached by one of the main contractors working for Slough Borough Council and asked to submit a tender for all associated works required to refurbish the Herschel car park deck, including anti-slip car park flooring and line marking. The Robex bid was successful and works commenced in July 2020.
The concrete was heavily tamped and required grinding back to flatten and provide a suitable finish to accept the DPM Primer Coat. The DPM Primer was applied by roller with a quartz aggregate scattered on top to provide a ‘key’ for the Deckmaster system.
The Deckmaster was applied by trowel and then rolled to obtain a textured anti-slip finish. The initial coat was finished in charcoal grey with ultra-violet sealer coats applied by roller to exposed areas. Red walkways were also applied by trowel and roller finished. Line marking, electrical charging zones were all created with our Epoxy Line Marking System.
The weather was one of the biggest challenges encountered with rain stopping work on a number of occasions due to the Deckmaster dry only application feature and towards the end of the contract temperatures dipped to below the minimum curing temperature required. We worked with a number of other contractors throughout the project which meant the occasional hold-up but nothing that we couldn’t overcome.
The client is delighted with the much-improved car park appearance; the previous drab finish had remained untouched since the early 1970’s, the new anti-slip car park flooring and line marking adds additional safety for users.
