Robex Contracting were tasked with the removal of old floor covering and installation of a new resin screed.
The Millennium Gloucester Hotel in Kensington is located in an extremely popular location, for both tourist and business guests, enjoying the sites of London and the many facilities on offer for casual, conference and business meetings. With such a large volume of guests, there is a huge demand for the restaurants and catering facilities offered at the hotel and due to the 24/7 requirement for food services, the kitchen area is the busiest within the hotel.
The floor was badly worn and had started to lift, due to water ingression in many areas, particularly around the drains and gulleys and pot wash areas.
Having carried out a full inspection of the kitchen areas and a number of meetings with the General Manager and Head Chef, our proposal was accepted with the work to be carried out during an agreed time schedule, that would mean the kitchen could remain operational throughout.
The Altro floor coverings were completely removed and the substrate mechanically prepared with vacuum equipment attached. We then installed anchor points across the floor, before applying a primer coating with aggregate scattered across the surface. Having been left to ‘cure’ overnight, we then installed our PU6290 Polyurethane Screed System at a depth of 6mm, which has provided a long-term seamless solution to the floor, which is also non-slip and extremely hard wearing and easy to clean and maintain.
We were given a timescale of 8 days, which included a Bank Holiday to complete the work, without causing any disruption to the kitchen services. This was achieved to the satisfaction of all concerned.
