Mission Foods, based in County Durham, is part of an international group, manufacturing and distributing Mexican and South American foodstuffs. They are the leading supplier and manufacturer of flatbreads and deli wraps in the UK.
Robex Contracting was asked to survey the factory floor and come up with the most suitable, cost-effective solution to restore the floor area to the high standards required, in a modern food production factory.
Materials used
Epoxy Hi-Build Coating
Robex Epoxy Crete Repair Mortar
Work undertaken
After a thorough survey and trial applications of coatings to various areas, we put forward a specification based on our Robex solvent-free Epoxy Hi-Build Coating. This involved grinding off the existing finish on the floor using the latest vacuum-assisted diamond grinding equipment. The substrate was taken back to the base concrete, which produced a clean, dry surface to take the new coating system.
All repairs to the floor slab were carried out using Robex Epoxy Crete Repair Mortar. The floor was vacuumed to remove any residual dust. The first coat of Hi-Build Coating was applied by brush, at a dry film thickness of 250/300 microns and allowed to cure. The second coat was applied at the same thickness.
Outcome
The end result produced an attractive, easy-to-clean finish which would easily cope with the prevailing traffic conditions in the area. The finish provided Mission Foods with a surface they were delighted with, which also met the high standards of hygiene and Health and Safety required in a modern-day major food environment.
