German Gymnasium Restaurant Bar Project

Foodsafe Floor Coating

Find out more about this service

The German Gymnasium was built in 1865 for the German Gymnastics Society. It hosted the indoor events for the first Olympic Games back in 1866. It is now one of the most attractive restaurants in London and has a great vibe for a place to eat.

Materials used

Foodsafe Quartz.

Work undertaken

After all of the tiles were removed, we could then see the poor condition of the wood underneath, it was rotten and damp. We removed this and replaced with 18mm Marine Plywood. Once secured tightly, we installed our Robex Foodsafe Quartz at 4mm.

The Foodsafe Quartz system includes a primer coat, followed by a self-levelling resin which is then fully ‘blinded’ with a coloured aggregate. Once the resin has cured, the excess aggregate is then removed and two sealer coats are then applied.

Challenges

We had a tight schedule to work with, the upstairs bar was closed for one full day and was due to reopen at lunchtime the following day. All preparation works were completed in the first day with the installation of the resin by the following morning.

Outcome

Non-slip resin floor behind the bar area which is now seamless and hard wearing. The staff are delighted with the new floor.
