Robex were tasked with the removal of the existing flooring and installation of a new resin screed.
The London Hilton on Park Lane is famous the world over and includes the Grand Ballroom – one of the largest in London – which can accommodate up to 1250 guests. Synonymous with prestigious events of all sizes, it was the official hotel for the International Olympic Committee during the London 2012 Games.
Materials used
RXPU 6290 Resin system, RX Bulk Resin, Robex joint Sealant and Robex Epoxy Damp proof Primer.
Work undertaken
Various PU Screeds which had been installed over the top of an asphalt base were removed. The floor surrounding the drains was saturated and it was decided to remove large areas around the drains and gulleys and to reinstate using a resin screed infill. Prior to this, a flexible joint sealant was applied and the entire area waterproofed using an epoxy DPM.
Once the area around the drains and gulley’s had been filled, a ‘bulk resin’ infill screed was then laid and then finally RXPU 6290 was installed at 9mm, to provide the finished floor. In total, twenty tonnes of flooring was removed and replaced with a resin screed.
Challenges
Core samples had to be taken to determine the depth and makeup of the old floor. In total, twenty tonnes of flooring was removed and replaced with a resin screed. The old screed had to be removed and taken down a number of floors to street level, to place in a skip. The work had to be completed whilst the banqueting kitchen was still in use.
Outcome
A completely new waterproof resin screed.
